Infections
| Infection Type | Most Common Causative Pathogen |
|---|---|
| UTI | Escherichia coli |
| Viral Meningitis | Enteroviruses |
| Bacterial Meningitis | Meningococcal and Pneumococcal bacteria |
| CAP | Streptococcus Pneumoniae |
| HAP | Polymicobial |
Escherichia coli is the most common pathogen responsible for urinary tract infection in the UK.
Meningitis may be viral or bacterial. The most common viral organisms are usually enteroviruses. In bacterial meningitis Meningococcal and Pneumococcal bacteria are the most common causative organisms.
CAP is most often caused by Strep Pneumoniae. Haemophilus influenza is another common causative organism.
In Hospital acquired pneumonia approximately 50% of cases are thought to be polymicrobial. Pseudomonas and staph aureus (including MRSA) are commonly implicated pathogens.
