Intracranial Pressure

ICP Key Points
Cerebral perfusion pressure is calculated by subtracting the intracranial pressure from the mean arterial pressure.
CPP = MAP - ICP
Intracranial pressure is raised in:
- Hypercapnia
- Hypoxia
- Low cerebral perfusion
- Accelerated hypertension
- Conditions affecting CSF circulation e.g. mass lesions, obstructive hydrocephalus, venous thrombosis and oedema (which may be secondary to other causes such as infart or infection)
